A study conducted to examine characteristics of pedestrians in Singapore shows that the mean walking speeds of Singaporeans is 74 m/min (4.05 ft/sec). This speed is relatively slower than that of his American counterpart. The maximum flow rate is 89 ped/m/min which is higher than the 81 ped/m/min and 78 ped/m/min obtained in the United States and Britain, respectively.
