Plasma fractions added to synthetic Mixture 199 have been compared with whole serum for growth enhancement of monkey kidney cells in tissue culture. Fraction IV and/or V, when used in the concentrations given, appear to be capable of stimulating cell multiplication at least as well as whole serum. Yields of poliomyelitis virus were enhanced by the effect of these substances upon cellular growth.
