Teicoplanin biosynthesis. In vitro studies have revealed that the clinically important N-acyl-glucosaminyl residue on teicoplanin originates from UDP-N-acetyl-glucosamine. A deacetylase essential for this biosynthetic pathway has been identified and characterised, and might prove useful in the production of novel glycopeptides.
