Single phase Sr2Si3O2N4:Eu2+ phosphors were prepared using high temperature solid state synthesis and optical properties were investigated for possible application in white Light Emitting Diodes. The phosphor shows broad PL emission in the red region, when excited using 450 nm light. The emission can be attributed to the 4f6 5d → 4f7 transition in the Eu2+ ion. A two phosphor white LED was realized using Sr2Si3O2N4:Eu2+ red phosphor which shows high CRI Ra value with an efficacy 51 lm/W.
