Millimeter and Submillimeter Wave Laser Action in Symmetric Top Molecules Optically Pumped via Parallel Absorption Bands

Twenty-one new laser lines with wavelengths from 192.8 μm to 1.8144 mm have been observed in methyl fluoride, acetonitrile, and methyl acetylene pumped by a CO2 laser. A novel form of high precision spectroscopy based on the relationships among the emission and absorption wavelengths is also described.
