A case of hibernoma adjacent to both kidneys in a patient with surgically proved pheochromocytoma emphasizes the need for a complete angiographic survey for the suspect tumor despite demonstration of hypervascular areas in the retroperitoneum. Angiography showed the vascularity associated with hibernoma (brown fat) in the perinephric regions bilaterally. That on the right was interpreted as an atypical pheochromocytoma.
