Abstract

Iron layers are nitrided in mixtures of ammonia and hydrogen at low temperatures, using a thin nickel layer as catalyst. The phase diagram is extended from 350 to 240 °C. A possible triple point in the Lehrer diagram lies well below 275 °C.
