Abstract

The reactions of [LAlCl2] (L=HC[C(Me)N(Ar)]2, Ar=2,6-iPr2C6H3) with NH3 or H2O in the presence of a 1,3-di-tert-butylimidazol-2-ylidene as acceptor for the HCl lead to unique species of composition [LAl(NH2)2] (depicted) or [LAl(OH)2], respectively. The by-product 1,3-di-tert-butylimidazolium chloride can be recovered by filtration and recycled to the corresponding carbene.
