Abstract

This paper addresses the important problem of efficient system-level evaluation for real-time multidimensional signal processing systems, as occurring in image, speech and video processing. We solve both the difficult task of finding a correct procedural ordering for the evaluation (without expanding the code to scalars) and the optimisation of the loop organisation, leading to an acceptable amount of memory within the system-level evaluation and/or software/hardware synthesis environment. The effectiveness of our solution is substantiated with several realistic test cases. 1 Introduction Application studies in the areas of speech, image and video processing, front-end telecom and numerical computing systems indicate that many algorithms exhibit a large amount of control flow, including many loops, and multi-dimensional signals [3]. This is especially so if the applications are described in an applicative way using languages like SILAGE [7]. It leads to a severe memory bottleneck whe...
