In earlier work (5), we established the fact that for the growth of calves urea nitrogen could be successfully used for at least a partial supply of the protein nitrogen. This protein supply, from such a simple substance as urea, was made possible through the multiplication of the microorganisms of the rumen. This intervention of microorganisms and the use of urea in no way contradicts the accepted process of protein nutrition through essential amino acids.
