Abstract

High mobility, low bandwidth, limited computing capabilities of nodes are, among others, essential characteristics of mobile ad-hoc networks (MANET). Therefore, modelling and especially performance analysis of designed protocols are one of the growing research issues in MANET. However, ad-hoc networks are too complex to allow analytical study for explicit performance expressions. One of the widely used approaches to analyze protocols is using modelling and simulation methods. We used coloured Petri nets (CPN) to model and analyze our designed schemes, since CPN models can be used to investigate the performance of designed protocols. We modelled a position-based unicast routing protocol based on an extension of the distributed grid location service (GLS) concept. We extended our designed position-based unicast protocol to a scalable and resource-efficient multicast routing protocol for mobile ad-hoc networks. In this paper we will describe a CPN-based framework of both a unicast and a multicast routing methods developed.
