In previous work it has been shown how to calculate the magnetization curve from a simple theory which invokes a constant energy loss per unit change in magnetization in a ferromagnet. The energy loss, which is therefore proportional to the change in magnetization, leads to hysteresis loops which are obtained from first principles. In this paper it will be shown how the model has teen generalized to provide completely self consistent minor hysteresis loop excursions. By minor loop we mean any excursion for which either the range of magnetizations ΔM or the range of magnetic fields ΔH is not symmetric about zero. The resulting model solutions show that both crossing and partially coincident minor loops emerge naturally from the theory. This is known to occur in experimental observations and has been noted by Mayergoyz. The generalization of the theory of hysteresis to cover the minor loop excursions has resulted from the use of an effective volume fraction of active domains determined from the location of reversal points on the M.H plane. Such a concept is well known in the use of Preisach models for describing hysteresis.
