Abstract

Two mixing theorems are proposed to provide methods for (1) testing for possible greater packing density of powder mixtures compared with unmixed components, (2) predicting which of several powders or binary combinations of these powders gives the highest density, and (3) calculating the weight mixing ratio to give maximum packing density for particular combinations. Calculations are based on proper use of particle “size” data obtained from typical commercial “size” measuring devices, proper definitions of mixing and the fraction of powder occurring in “size” intervals, and functional or nonfunctional description of the data.
