Responses of male and female managers in public human service organizations are analyzed to determine w;hether differences exist in perceptions ofself-competence and ws'hether differences exist in their evaluations of the competence of women managers in general in these organizations. The findings suggest that female managers perceive themselves to be as competent as male managers, but theY see female managers in general as being less competent than male managers.
