Thirteen new sulfur rings can be isolated without decomposition by reverse phase HPLC and detected by UV spectroscopy. Melts of S 8 contain all S n rings with n = 6–26; the mixture obtained on reaction of SC1 2 or S 2 C1 2 with KI consists of S n rings with n = 6–21 or of even‐numbered rings with up to 22 members. The separation of S 8 and Se 8 was accomplished in the same way.
