Abstract

Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) are gaining popularity in many engineering and scientific applications due to their high computational rates, ability to handle nonlinear functions and a great degree of robustness. Load flow studies are important to arrive at power system planning, control and operating strategies. Sometimes, utilities are unable to perform certain functions, involving several load flow solutions in real time mode e.g. power system optimization and security analysis due to availability of slow and unreliable conventional load flow methods. This paper reports the development of fast load flow method based on neural network which can be used for such real time applications. A feed forward model of the neural network based on back propagation algorithm has been used for the load flow probelms and the method has been tested for two sample ac systems. The proposed model has been found to provide sufficiently accurate results.
