Assessment of the Morbidity and Complications of Total Thyroidectomy

Abstract

Postoperative hypocalcemia is the most common immediate surgical complication of total thyroidectomy. Other complications, including recurrent laryngeal nerve paralysis, can be expected at rates approximating 1%.
