Anaesthetics are used in aquaculture to facilitate various routine handling procedures, such as weighing, sorting, collection of spawning material, tagging or veterinary treatments The most widely used anaesthetics include MS-222 (tricaine methanesulphonate), benzocaine, etomidate, metomidate, phenoxyethanol, quinaldine, and quinaldine sulphate (Gomuka and Antychowicz 1999). In Poland, Propiscin has recently become a commonly used agent.
