Hydrosilylation by H-terminated silicon of the double bond of methyl 10-undecenoate with formation of a robust SiC bond is the first step in a three-step procedure (see scheme) for anchoring the single-molecule magnet (SMM) [Mn12O12(OAc)16(H2O)4] (1) on the Si(100) surface.
