The observed superconductivity in the stage-1 graphite---alkali-metal intercalation compounds (GIC's) is modeled using both graphite $\ensuremath{\pi}$ bands and intercalate $s$ bands. The anisotropy observed in the superconducting properties is explained in terms of the anisotropy of the Fermi surfaces of the GIC's.
