Abstract

It is shown that singlet-triplet transitions may obtain a finite probability when exchange interaction occurs between the absorbing molecule and a paramagnetic molecule. According to this mechanism no quantitative relation exists between the transition dipole strength and the paramagnetic susceptibility of the perturbing molecule.
