Abstract

Stereotypes of women and men who varied in their occupations were assessed by obtaining (a) judgments of prototypical individuals on trait-rating scales or (b) estimates of the percentage of group members who possess each trait. The absence of significant interactions between the method of assessing stereotypes and the sex or occupation of the target stimuli suggests that these two methods of stereotype measurement can be used interchangeably.
