Abstract

This work presents the design of a tunable oscillator circuit based on a mechanically tuned resonant cavity that allows varying the oscillation frequency by 2%-3% by means of a flap. The proposed tuning method is validated by implementing a substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) resonant cavity which is used as the resonator of an oscillator circuit operating at 12.2 GHz. The mechanically tuned cavity can vary the frequency of the oscillator in the range of 12.1 GHz to 12.4 GHz allowing for a fine compensation of a potential resonance frequency variation due to fabrication and component tolerances. The proposed method can be used for fine tuning of oscillator circuits at the implementation phase.
