Abstract

The effective allocation of radar resources is essential if multifunction radars are to realise their full potential. In the most stressing conditions, there will be insufficient resources to carry out all the desired radar functions. Therefore the ranking of radar tasks is an important sub-problem for radar resource management, particularly as resource allocation is likely to be based on the relative importance of radar tasks. The development of an adaptive prioritisation assignment, fuzzy-reasoning-based algorithm used for ranking targets and sectors of surveillance in dynamically changing tactical environments has been addressed. The performance of this approach is compared with that of other prioritisation methods based on more conventional ‘hard decision logic’ and simple fixed prioritisation.
