Nine cases of actinomycosis primarily involving the anorectal region have been seen at the Mayo Clinic since 1950. Complete healing may be expected once the correct diagnosis is made, on the basis of the characteristic clinical manifestations and laboratory identification of the organism, and proper antimicrobial and surgical therapy is administered.
