Effects of nonadiabaticity on applications of the ponderomotive force near gyroresonance

Abstract

The enhancement of the ponderomotive potential near gyroresonance is investigated both experimentally and theoretically. Due to nonadiabaticity the maximum value of the ponderomotive potential is limited by the transit time of the particle through the r.f. field structure. The results have important implications for isotope separation and r.f. plugging of fusion plasmas.
