Abstract

Experimental results are presented demonstrating that the frequently observed ``vacuum reduction'' of rutile is, in fact, due to residual vacuum system impurities, and that no measurable reduction occurs in a clean vacuum at temperatures as high as 1000°C for times of [inverted lazy s] 100 h.
