Clostridium difficile infection is associated with worse long term outcome in patients with ulcerative colitis

Abstract

CDI appears to be associated with escalation of medical therapy in the year following infection. CDI and severe disease on endoscopy appear to be associated with an increased risk for subsequent colectomy on long-term follow up.
