The superconducting transition temperature (${T}_{c}$) is theoretically shown to rise as a result of the presence of the Peierls instability within a simple incomplete-nesting model in two dimensions. It is demonstrated that ${T}_{c}$ can exceed by an order of magnitude that in the absence of the Peierls transition under certain conditions. The implication of this is discussed for the high-${T}_{c}$ superconductors ${\mathrm{La}}_{2\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}\mathrm{x}}$${\mathrm{M}}_{\mathrm{x}}$${\mathrm{CuO}}_{4}$.
