Peierls Transition

Peierls Transition is a symmetry-breaking electronic instability in one-dimensional conductors, classified as a structural phase transition, wherein a periodic lattice distortion opens an energy gap at the Fermi level, leading to the formation of a charge density wave and the transformation from a metallic to an insulating state.
