We report that an ultrapotent vanilloid agonist resiniferatoxin can provide a selective and long-lasting neural blockade. Applied to the sciatic and saphenous nerves, it completely prevented pain hypersensitivity caused by prolonged inflammatory process (injection of carrageenan into the paw).
