Abstract

Using the newly developed “flight time integral” method, we have carried out a rigorous analysis of the electron transport property in a model gas under the influence of electric and magnetic fields. As is well known, the electron energy distribution is not changed by addition of the magnetic field B in parallel to the electric field E , but is seriously changed when a crossed magnetic field is given above a critical value B c , where all the electron transport coefficients are diminished with B . It is confirmed that the similarity law holds only when all the values of E , B and gas density N are changed together, keeping E / N and B / N constant.
