The pure rotational spectrum of 2-methylfuran has been measured in the range 12 000–33 000 MHz. Analysis, using a fourth-order perturbation treatment, of internal rotation A–E doublet splittings gives a barrier of 1190 cal/mole. The spectrum for an excited vibrational state has been assigned, and exhibits essentially the same internal barrier.
