A Modified Woods Hole Rapid Sediment Analyzer

Abstract

ABSTRACT The Woods Hole Rapid Sediment Analyzer provides a means for rapid size analysis of fine gravel and sand. The analyzer has been modified to improve the pressure sensing device, the sediment introduction gate, and the dimensions of the tube. Further, the system has been calibrated in terms of Wentworth size grades so that the weight percent of individual size fractions can be obtained. Calibration tests show that fall velocities are influenced by the less known factors of silt concentration and sorting of the sand fraction.
