The (p, t) reaction at E p =52 MeV has been used to study differential cross sections and cross section ratios of the ground state band members in 236 U and 230 Th. Experimental results were compared with the usual zero-range DWBA calculations, where the difference between deformations of the target and the residual nucleus was explicitly taken into account. In 236 U angular distributions of 0 + (g. s), 2 + (45 keV), 4 + (149 keV) and 6 + (310 keV) members of ground state band were obtained. In addition, the 8 + (520 keV) member, which has been assigned from α-γ measurements, was observed. For 230 Th, the 0 + (g. s), 2 + (53 keV) and 4 + (174 keV) members of the ground-state band were observed and also the previously unobserved 6 + member was found at an excitation energy very near that 400 keV estimated from the I(I+1) law.
