The reduction mechanism of tertiary phosphine oxides by Ti(O<i>i</i>Pr)<sub>4</sub>/hydrosiloxane was studied. Strong improvement was achieved using a drying agent. ESR spectra of the reaction mixture give evidence for a single electronic transfer (SET) mechanism.
