Abstract The molecular weight of polysuccinimide prepared by thermal polycondensation depends mostly on the reaction temperature. Antioxidants have no effect. Proteolytic enzymes do not degrade the main chain of N ‐substituted polyaspartamides tested. Bacteria are capable of utilizing about 4% of aspartic acid from the 2‐hydroxyethyl derivative. Side chains are sensitive to enzymes as in the previously studied polyolefinic polymers.
