Abstract

We have placed a torsion balance (containing two Be and two Cu test bodies) on a hillside to search for intermediate-range forces that couple to baryon number. Our results constrain (at 1\ensuremath{\sigma}) the strength of such an interaction to be \ensuremath{\Vert}\ensuremath{\alpha}\ifmmode \tilde{}\else \~{}\fi{}\ensuremath{\Vert}\ensuremath{\le}1\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}${10}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}4}$ for ranges 250\ensuremath{\le}\ensuremath{\lambda}\ensuremath{\le}1400 m and \ensuremath{\Vert}\ensuremath{\alpha}\ifmmode \tilde{}\else \~{}\fi{}\ensuremath{\Vert}\ensuremath{\le}1\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}${10}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}3}$ for ranges 30<\ensuremath{\lambda}<250 m.
