A heme run: A combination of synthetic and isolation studies allowed detailed mapping of the antiplasmodial structure–activity relationships of a unique class of macrocyclic meroditerpenes from the red macroalga Callophycus serratus. This SAR map was used to develop fluorescent probes that identified heme crystallization within neutral lipid nanospheres as a mode of action of bromophycolide A.
