Abstract

The experimental facilities offered by the Haverah Park extensive air shower array are described. This array contains four deep Cerenkov detectors, each of area 34 m2, spaced 500 m apart. The response of the detectors to the different components of the cosmic radiation are described and the performance of the array as a whole is considered. The array is efficient in detecting showers from primary particles having energies in the range 1017-1018 ev and responds efficiently to showers arriving at large zenith angles.
