Studies on spatial and temporal behavior of the emission spectrum of excimer-laser-produced copper plasma in vacuum and in the presence of argon and neon gas are reported. Intensity of spectral lines increases in presence of background gas. Intensity of spontaneously emitted Cu i transition 4p 2P3/2-4s2 2D5/2 at 510.5 nm shows a strong dependence on pressure of neon gas.
