Determination, by NMR spectroscopy, of the structure of ciceritol, a pseudotrisaccharide isolated from lentils

Abstract

An unknown pseudotrisaccharide was isolated from Lens culinaris seeds. NMR spectroscopy of this substance established unambiguously its structure as α-D-galactopyranosyl-(1-6)-α-D-galactopyranosyl-
\n(1-2)-4-0-methyl-chiro-inositol. This compound has received the trivial name of ciceritol. It has been previously identified as manninotriose.
