High precision Stark effect measurements were performed on the X 2Σ+ state of CaI by using the molecular-beam laser-microwave double resonance method. The electric dipole moment was determined as μ=4.5968(50) D. With this result measured dipole moments are known for all calcium monohalides and are compared with the values predicted by two recently developed ionic bonding models.
