Abstract Formation fines are ubiquitous in oil- and gas-bearing sandstones. Formation damage resulting from dispersion and migration of fines is a major concern in producing wells. These fines are mineralogically diverse and become a problem when they detach from pore walls, migrate with flowing fluids and choke off pore throats. The formation damage resulting from fines migration causes a reduction in well performance. A treatment that will inhibit the migration of fines will improve long-term well production. This paper presents the results of a laboratory evaluation and field case histories of fines control treatments in sandstone. P. 461
