Formation Fines Migration

Formation Fines Migration is the movement of fine-grained particulate matter native to a reservoir formation through pore spaces in the rock matrix, driven by fluid flow, that distinguishes itself from other forms of formation damage by specifically involving sub-micron to micron-sized mineral or clay particles detaching and migrating within the porous medium, potentially leading to pore throats restriction and permeability reduction near the wellbore or within downhole completions.
