The UV-visible properties of hexaniobate (H<sub>x</sub>Nb<sub>6</sub>O<sub>19</sub><sup>x−8</sup>) and hexatantalate (H<sub>x</sub>Ta<sub>6</sub>O<sub>19</sub><sup>x−8</sup>) ions were investigated experimentally and by DFT calculations.
