Lifetimes of seven 3p levels in Ne i, and of eight 4p and four 4p′ levels in Ar ii were measured using the beam-foil technique and an image-tube spectrograph. The lifetimes of the measured 3p levels in Ne i agree well with those obtained by the pulsed electron-beam method. There is disagreement among the available experimental and theoretical studies of lifetimes and transition probabilities in Ar ii. We present our results, which include previously unreported values, for comparison.
