Abstract In order to obtain well‐controlled size and optimized structural properties, ZnO nanoparticles were grown from ethanolic solutions using acetate, acetylacetonate and dimethylpropylendiamine as stabilizer molecules. The low‐temperature syntheses yield considerably large amounts of pure, nanocrystalline powder. Structural properties like particle size, crystal structure and quality were investigated by x‐ray diffractometry, photoluminescence, and Raman spectroscopy. Particle sizes down to 4 nm and a size dependent anisotropic shape are observed. (© 2007 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
