A high density recording thin film head with sufficient write field and resolution is realized. From simulation results using the finite element method, it is found that a head with a top pole-tip thicker than the bottom one is superior to the usual equal pole-tip length head in providing compatibility between these characteristics. Recording characteristics of sample heads measured using a particulate disc ( Hc=430 Oe ) show that 10,000 FCI ( 400 FC/mm ) magnetic recording density is feasible.
