The gas holdup and the volumetric rate of entrained gas in a downflow bubble column with gas entrainment by a liquid jet were reported in previous papers.18 '19) The purpose of this work is to investigate experimentally the bubble size, the gas-liquid inter facial area and the liquid-phase volumetric mass transfer coefficient in the downflow system and to compare them with those in ordinary bubble columns.
